We've been wanting to go to Salvation Mountain for years now but we just never got around to going. It's about an hour away and Good Friday seemed like a great day to finally visit.
On our way there, to give the girls some background, we read them the biography of Leonard Knight-- the man, the mountain, and his simple message of hope. He led an interesting life, to say the least. You can read more about him on the Salvation Mountain website.
Eclectic folk art with a message.
Follow the yellow road to the top.
It is finished!
God is LOVE!
Most of the paint has been donated by snowbirds.
Jesus loves YOU!
This was the truck Leonard Knight called his home until his death a few years ago. He didn't mind the intense desert heat or the howling winds. In fact, he was quoted as saying,
"If someone gave me $100,000 a week to move somewhere and live in a mansion and be a big shot, I'd refuse it. I want to be right here. It's amazing isn't it?"
Of course, Zach found some heavy machinery.
Knight's simple message of hope lives on...
Repent and Love Jesus. God is love!
On the way back, we stopped at the Salton Sea Yacht Club for a picnic lunch.
This is what the girls really thought of the place. Stinky! Smelled sort of like rotten eggs.
Of course, he won't wear a hat of his own but he likes trying on dad's hat.
Then he wanted to go the "beach."
The smell could have been from all the dead fish washed up on shore.
Always taking risks, this one.
The girls met some friends with chalk and they set about creating their own "Salvation Mountain." 😊
After lunch, we had communion as a family, right there on the picnic table facing the Salton Sea. A sweet friend that we saw at Salvation Mountain gave us some bread and grape juice. We remembered and thanked God for the greatest sacrifice ever made in all of history. Jesus, God's one and only Son, went to the cross and willingly suffered and died in our place, for OUR sins. What amazing love!
To me, more than any other day, Easter is undoubtedly the most significant and meaningful. Without Easter Sunday, all our hope would be in vain. Tomorrow, we celebrate the fact that Jesus rose from the dead and conquered the grave, just as He said he would. And because of that, all those who believe, repent, and call on Him as Lord and Savior will live with Him for all of eternity.
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" -John 11:25-26
This life isn't all there is, friends. It's only a small blip compared to eternity.
Do you know where you will spend forever?

Like it says in one of Zach's Easter books... Easter is not about eggs, bunnies, new clothes, toys, or candy. Yes, all those things are fun and OK but Easter is ALL ABOUT GOD'S SON!
Thank you, JESUS for paying my debt on the cross!
Wishing you and yours a blessed and Happy Easter!
He is Risen!!
