Ellie's Pool Party!

30 June 2019

Last week, we got together to celebrate Ellie's 11th birthday!

The kids started out playing the balloon popping game.

Then we had a balloon drop in the pool.

 There they go!

These big kids are all teenagers now!

The Blodgett's have THE BEST pool for big parties so it's always fun to gather there for celebrations.
Believe it or not, the pool was actually a little cold at the end of June.
I'm telling you, we've had the mildest spring and we're all loving it!

Happiest of birthdays, dear Ellie!

June 2019 Book Review

28 June 2019

Well, 1/3 of our summer is nearly in the books! We've enjoyed the longest spring season that I can remember over here. And it's been wonderful! We're not complaining either because June has been relatively mild, too.

Bring it on, July! We're ready for you!

This month, I managed to get through 3 books.

First up, A Practical Guide to Culture.

This book was a beast and might go down as my favorite book of the year so far.
Why? Because it was so meaty and relevant and important in today's culture.
This book was written to help Christians, especially Christian parents, navigate a culture that is growing in its hostility to the Christian worldview. The book is organized into four parts. Part one lays out what culture is and why it is important to understand it. Part two explains how the current culture effects how we see ourselves, through the lenses of technology, identity, relationships and maturity. Part three deals with contemporary sexuality, and can serve as a reference guide. Part four wraps up dealing with the grounding of our Christian worldview.

Each chapter was rich and worthy of pondering and discussion. I feel like I could read this book every year and get more out of it. Also, it's definitely something I want our kids to read (and discuss together) when they reach high school age. Most of all, I loved the encouragement to engage the culture. By engaging instead of retreating or complaining, we have the power to change it. We were born for such a time as this.
I highly recommend this book!

Next up was Different.

I love Sally Clarkson so when I found out she had written a book with her son, I was interested.
From his early childhood, Nathan was bursting with creativity and uncontainable energy, struggling not only with learning issues but also with anxiety, ADHD, and OCD. He saw the world through his own unique lens―one that often caused him to be labeled as “bad,” “troubled,” or someone in need of “fixing.”

Bravely choosing to listen to her motherly intuition rather than the loud voices of the world, Sally dared to believe that Nathan’s differences could be part of an intentional design from a loving Creator with a plan for his life. She trusted that the things that made him different were the very things that could make him great.

Oh man, did this story resonate with me. It also gave me so much hope and encouragement. I have always known that God made Zachary different. But I also knew that those differences were the things that were going to set him apart and that God has a very special plan for our boy. Zach is my out of the box kid. The world may see him as needing more discipline or fixing but I see him as a strong, passionate, and focused man-in-the-making. Zach doesn't have all the issues that Nathan has but we as parents, know when one of our kids just doesn't fit the mold. The Lord made Zach exactly the way He wanted to and only he can fulfill the purpose the Lord has for him. I have the incredible privilege of raising and training him up.
Boy, do we love him like crazy!

Last, was God's Smuggler.

Father's Day

21 June 2019

Still a kid at heart. 💘
Especially when it comes to dirt bikes.

I'm not sure who is happier. Both of them are in their element.

Weeee!

Well, it was Father's Day weekend and Morgan decided to get Zach his next motorcycle.
He called it an early birthday gift for him but actually, I think it's a gift for the both of them. 😉

Look at our big boy! Turning 5 in just two weeks! 😱

This man couldn't be more adored by his family.

If only there were 4 of him!
Everyone always wants to be with daddy!

After a relaxing day at home, Morgan chose dinner at Dickey's.

Happy Father's Day to the guy who holds all of us and everything together and makes life so much fun.
He's the hardest worker with the most compassionate heart.
For all the things I am not, Morgan makes up for in ways I never could. Our kids are so blessed to call him their earthly daddy. Most importantly, through him, our kids see a reflection of the unconditional love and delight their heavenly Father has for each of them. What a beautiful and loving picture of fatherhood.
We love him so much!
Happy Father's Day, babe!

Strawberry Picking

20 June 2019

Last week, we went up to cooler, higher ground for some U-Pick Strawberries.

This was Zach's first time picking any fruit and he really enjoyed it.

Looking for the red ripe ones.

Our pints were full!

He stopped to pick me a flower. 😄

Family fun day at Riley's.

We picnicked and washed up some of our sweet berries.

Then we enjoyed the park and the 80 degree weather.

Look at this cutie on the tire swing. 😍

So thankful for that our mountain escape is only an hour away.
It's so nice to be able to play outside in the cooler temps!

Summer, so far...

15 June 2019

The girls did so well at their end of the year piano recital.
All year, they rose to the challenge and worked diligently.
Couldn't be more proud of them! 💕👏

Look how big these kids are getting! They all played beautifully! 🎹

Give him all the pancakes. 😂

He's never met a donut he didn't like either. This kid is all about his carbs. 🙈
I bought some Krispy Kreme donuts from a neighbor kid who was doing a fundraiser for his school and my family pretty much thought I was awesome that day. 😂

The cousins came to visit and the kids had fun swimming in the evening.

The girls have been practicing for basketball camp next month with Uncle Rich.

Morgan and Grace had a great night and Spirit West Coast where they saw For King and Country!

We started swim team again with our friends, the Whites.

Two afternoons a week, you can find us at the Aquatic Center.

And that's what we've been up to around here lately!

Happy Summer! 🌞

Wall of Fame

10 June 2019

My brother, Rich was honored as the Wall of Fame recipient for 2019 at his school.
The family all gathered for the induction ceremony.

Here's his bio and history at Rosary.
He's always been the smarty pants in the family. 😄

 Cousin love. 😂

 Giving his acceptance speech.

 Well done, Coach!

It was special night for my family.
So fun to see my big brother be recognized for his hard work, dedication and loyalty.

Proud of you, bro. 💖
