Cold Stone Creamery Field Trip

13 August 2010

Sarah told us about their upcoming campaign with Make a Wish Foundation.
Make a note of the date and time--FREE ice cream!

Touring the fridge.

Showing us how to make "Cake batter" ice cream.

Touring the freezer.

I found the shelf with chocolate. :)

15 minutes later and voila'!

Here it comes!

So yummy! It had the consistency of marshmallow fluff!

Behind the counter.

The "cold stone" mixing table and all the delicious toppings to choose from.

Karen helps Jacob mix his ice cream.

Teagan gets a little help from his mom.

Faith's creation: strawberry ice cream with gummy bears, marshmallows, and chocolate sprinkles!

Having fun mixing their own.

Grace's pick: watermelon sorbet with gummies, marshmallows, and rainbow sprinkles.

Oh my word!

Excited about trying their creations.

Sampling each others.

Sweet treats with sweet friends!
These are all friends who are part of our "unofficial" co-op.
All homeschooled kids!

What do you do when you're supposed to schedule and plan the year's first field trip and it's 110 outside?! Ask your local ice cream shoppe for a behind the scenes tour! It was fabulous. So much better than what I expected. The manager, Sarah not only opened the shoppe an hour early for us, she gave us a tour and showed us how to make the very popular, Cake Batter flavored ice cream. The fun part was allowing the kids (little and BIG!) the opportunity to sample some homemade ice cream! We learned about how creative you can be when you work there (coming up with different concoctions) and how you get one free ice cream per day if you're an employee.

The BEST part by far: All the kids got to make their own creations and mix it on the "cold stone" tablet themselves. This was definitely a sweet treat for my kids. They've never even had a kid sized ice cream all to themselves (they typically share one and it's frozen yogurt). Not to mention, they got to choose any toppings they wanted!

What a fun way to learn about ice cream and survive the summer heat!

Afterwards, some of us went next door to Del Taco for a quick lunch. The kids barely ate anything (that's why we picked Del Taco). Ok, so my girls spolied their lunch and took their nap an hour later than normal. Hey, you're only a kid once, right?? Besides, it was SO WORTH IT!

*Missed you, Hailey, Viv, & Levi!
