Interesting things about Korea...

02 March 2007

Our breakfast of champions!

1. People walk on the left side of the sidewalk, and drive on the right side (like the U.S.)
2. Only cross the street where there are white lines, otherwise, you go underground to cross over. You don't want to jaywalk, otherwise you could get hit by a fast moving vehicle.
3. Koreans are very high-tech and really into their electronics.
4. The subway is very clean and quiet. If someone is talking, it is usually little kids. Everyone (young and old) on the subway is listening to their ipods, whispering on their hand-phones (cell phones) or watching a movie on their phone. Also, you don't wait for people to come off and on, you gently push your way.
5. Seoul is very westernized. There are many Starbucks and 7-11's, an Outback Steak House, Subway, KFC, McDonalds, Tony Romas and TGI Fridays.
6. The style of clothes is trendy. Koreans tend to dress up more than in the U.S.
7. Seoul is a very big city. About 11 million people live here with 25% of the Korean population living in Seoul. Mostly everyone lives in apartments.
8. Virtually everyone here is slender. It is probably because they walk everywhere. Even the senior citizens walk swiftly.
9. The smells are very distinct here--from the fish markets, the kimchi, and the ginseng.
10. Do not leave any spaces in lines, if you do, people will cut in front of you.
11. There are no super-size options here. Drinks tend to be smaller and portions are not as big as we have in America.
12. Koreans are not short. They range in height just like Americans and we have noticed many tall men and women. *Morgan says this isn't true as he notices he is taller than most everyone while we are out in crowds :)
