Respite Care

27 December 2017

Before I post about our Christmas, I wanted to remember what we did the week before Christmas.
We had the opportunity to provide respite care for our friends, Bill & Leslie Seals. For almost 6 years now, the Seals' have been serving as the dedicated host family for Safe Families.

If you've been following my blog over the years, you might remember that we also spent a brief time serving as a host family. Safe Families provides temporary housing for children. This is while their birthparents get their life back on track. In other words, the goal of the ministry is orphan prevention and family reunification. Bill and Leslie wanted to spend some time with their extended family in San Diego for Christmas so we jumped at the chance to take care of their two little ones for the weekend.

Zach had fun pushing Layla around.

We just had to remind him not to go too fast. 😮

They played together well in the kitchen.

While Athena and Grace played in the girls' room.

 They were playing nap time.

Who could resist little Miss Layla? She quickly warmed up to us.

 She was absolutely Purrfect!

Athena enjoyed doing Grace's hair and "flat ironing" it with a light saber. 😄

 Cutie pies.

Zach did such a fantastic job of sharing his daddy all weekend. I was so proud of him!

All the little girls are fond of Morgan.

She was a fearless little one.

Taking a stroll with the littles.

We had some gorgeous afternoon park time.

This is pretty typical. Me and a load full of kids on the golf cart.

 My Sunday morning view.

Some were happy about taking a picture before church... and some were not. 😜

A trip to Costco after church.

 More playing and giggles.

 Sweet cuddles for little brother.

 Hooray for more park time.

 Tee ball... on a rock.
Because what's the fun in standing on the ground?
It wouldn't be dangerous enough. 😱🙈

He was so great with her!

 Advent reading.

These two sisters were great eaters and sleepers (they put Zach to shame) so in terms of caring for them, they were easy! We tried to hang out around the house all weekend and just do the normal things that we'd always do. Zach did so awesome sharing his toys and sharing his daddy all weekend. For once, he wasn't the baby anymore and that, in itself, made him seem more grown up.
It was so good for him!

Athena and Layla will be with the Seals' for at least another 6 months so I'm sure we'll have the chance to have them over again. This was a sweet opportunity for our whole family to serve this Christmas while also helping out our friends.
