Operation Christmas Child

15 November 2011

We did our first bit of Christmas shopping today.

The girls each took $10 out of their piggy banks to buy gifts for a little girl they’ve never met, on the other side of the world.  They carefully picked out each gift at the Dollar Store and packed their shoeboxes with excitement.  Later, they designed a card and included a short note and picture.  Before bedtime, we prayed over the boxes as a family.

This is the girls’ 3rd year participating in Operation Christmas Child.  It’s fun to see how their involvement and enthusiasm have grown over the years.  I love this ministry.  I love how even smaller kids can get involved and focus on giving.  Most of all, I love how this tangible gift demonstrates God’s love for needy kids around the world.

National Collection Week ends on November 21st.

Have you packed a shoebox yet?

If you make a donation online, you can even track your box to see where it ends up!

Serving others, sharing the love of Jesus, and a geography lesson…  Nice!
