After 2 days at sea, our first port of call was Puerto Vallarta. It’s been years since Morgan and I had been there. We hired a private taxi driver to hang out with us all day. He was our tour guide and a great source of information. Sometimes, we like to go off the beaten path and avoid all the crowds. Plus, it’s much cheaper than paying for an excursion from the cruise ship and a more personal experience all around.
Morgan did a little research before leaving home and decided the best spot for us would be Playas Gemelas. It translates to “Twin” Beaches.
It’s actually 2 small crescent shaped beaches at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains. We climbed down a steep set of jungle like stairs to reach it but it led us to a breathtaking beach where the surf was gentle and great for snorkeling. Plus, for most of the day, with the exception of a few locals, we had the entire beach all to ourselves. A little slice of heaven on earth.
Finished a GREAT book!
We drove down the coast and had lunch at this restaurant on Mismaloya Beach. It’s where they filmed “The Night of the Iguana” in 1964.
Nothing like enjoying chips and guacamole with your toes in the sand.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
The Plaza.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. We had a fantastic day in Puerto Vallarta, topped off with another fun show on the ship.
Next stop… Cabo!
