November 2020 Book Review

30 November 2020

Wow, November. You came and went and it was one WILD month.

We put our home on the market and it sold in 10 days. Because of that, and our decision to move, I was only able to get through 2 books this month.

The first book was one that I had the girls read and write a paper on. They enjoyed it, found it helpful, and recommended that I read it as well. I think I read the adult version (by his dad, Stephen R. Covey) many years ago.

This book is suitable for adults as well as teens. It contains the same 7 habits as the adult version but it is written with stories regarding situations a teenager might face.
All in all, I think it gave some great resources to be a pro-active member of society while learning how to improve your relationships and leadership skills. A worthwhile read!

Next, I read Boys in the Boat to the girls.
We love true stories like this. Stories that immerse you in the time period and give you a glimpse into the hardships of eras past. Out of the depths of the Great Depression came the astonishing tale of 9 working-class boys from the American West who at the 1936 Olympics showed the world what true grit really meant. The University of Washington's crew team was never expected to defeat the elite Ivy League East Coast teams, but they did. And they went on to shock the world by challenging the German rowing team and hence, Adolf Hitler. If you like true sports stories that have you rooting for the underdog, this is it!

39/50

Although I won't be hitting my goal of reading 50 books this year, it's still way more books than I would have read without a goal so I'm OK with that. I also started listening to podcasts this year so that took up some of my limited time as well. Maybe in another blog post, I'll share my favorite podcasts.

Life Lately

19 November 2020

Well, a lot has been going on over here. There are some big changes ahead for our family that I'll be sharing soon. As a result, I haven't been posting much but these are some photos from my phone over the last month that I didn't want to forget. Just a little snapshot of what we've been up to lately.

We met my mom up at Los Rios to take in the fall beauty.

We've also been baking this pumpkin bread. It's definitely one of our favorite fall items from TJ's.
It's their GF Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix.

Speaking of all things pumpkin, the girls made these cute mini pumpkin pie desserts to take to their high school home group.

With help from big sister Faith, they painted a Thomas the Train pumpkin.

The cutest scarecrows ever.

For High School Youth group last month, Faith decided to dress up as a ball kid from the BNP Paribas Open. A uniform she never got to wear in the spring because of coronavirus.

Here they are with some of their youth group friends...

This kid did a great job at his first dentist appointment!

We were cleaning out the garage last weekend and we found our old Letterman Jackets.
We had the kids take a picture of us and they weren't impressed at all. 😝
Funny part is: we found a used tissue in both of our pockets. Those tissues have been in there for 40 years and 32 years. Dang, that's a LONG time. 😭😲

Can't believe Thanksgiving is already next week!
Whatever you do, I hope you get to celebrate with your friends and family!

Halloween 2020

04 November 2020

We had Mulan, a Scarecrow, and the Polar Express Train.

These two won the neighborhood costume contest with their homemade train.
They looked FANTASTIC!

Faith made her Mulan costume as well but we had to coerce Grace into dressing up at all.
She settled on a scarecrow because we had everything we needed at home. 😊

Love them!

I managed to find some things at home that worked for a scarecrow myself so here you have the mother/daughter scarecrow team (with make up by Faith).

Grace was sweet to say she wanted me to dress up the same as her.

Happy Halloween from our family to yours!

The Whites looked great as the Ingall's family from Little House on the Prairie.

Ellie was Captain Marvel and Jacob was Indiana Jones.

We met for an outdoor chili dinner at the White's.

Then did some trick or treating around their neighborhood.

I'd say only half as many houses were passing out candy this year but that didn't stop us from making the most of Halloween.

Thankful for the extra hour of sleep we got the next day!
