Another thing that has become a tradition around here is that we make caramel apples on Halloween.
My girls look forward to this every year.
We kept it simple and used coconut and pecans as toppings.
We had a Ref, an Angel, and Duke Caboom (Canada's greatest daredevil and stuntman).
I mean seriously... I just can't. 😂
Toy Story 4 is the only movie Zach has ever seen in the movie theatre.
Needless to say, Duke Caboom was his favorite character.
They are sweetest and best big sisters.
I love that they get to stay young a bit longer because they have a little brother.
These two typically have soccer practice on Thursday nights so we weren't sure if they were going to be able to trick or treat but coach called off practice, just two days before.
Hence, we didn't put much thought into costumes this year. Faith ended up using one of my old costumes and we picked up a new halo for Grace.
They are adorable!
That 'stache tho... 😂😂😂
The resemblance is uncanny! 😁
We ended up walking only about a third of our neighborhood before we got tired and headed home.
The girls met up with some friends and we all walked together.
Such a fun night with our 3 pumpkins!
I enlisted some new rules this Halloween about candy.
For the kids, the fun part about Halloween is dressing up, trick or treating, and collecting all the candy.
It isn't necessarily about eating all the candy.
In years past, I let the kids eat some but most of it, I just gave away or threw away.
This year, because of Zach's recent diagnosis, the last thing he needs is artificial dye and refined sugar. However, I know it's Halloween and I'm not a total miser.
They also love to dump out all their candy when they get home to see their spoils.
Once I quickly separated the better from the bad, I told each kid they can have their age in candy.
That means Zach can choose 5 favorites. He tried to tell me he was 10 years old. 😏
I told him he could eat all 5 pieces that night or eat some and save some for another day.
He ate 4 pieces of various chocolates. 😁
My boy's a chocolate lover.
Thankfully, that's better than the artificially dyed stuff anyway.
The girls picked 13 pieces, ate a couple, put the rest away for another day, and then dug in to the caramel apple they made earlier.
The rest of the candy is all piled together and magically disappears the next morning.
Instead of looking for all the candy the next morning, Zach found this waiting for him instead.
Band Aids, Slime, a Book, and Stickers.
Everything was about $10.
Candy? What candy??
Now this isn't a new idea. I read people do it in various forms and some even call it the "Witch Switch."
We keep all witch talk away from our house (except the Salem Witch Trials, which was a travesty. The girls just learned about this in school).
Anyway, it's just a small way of giving him something to enjoy and look forward to once he comes off the sugar high.
And that's our Halloween, done!
Can't believe it's already November!
