Relatives & Coex

04 March 2007

My relatives got together to take us out to lunch yesterday. My aunt, uncle and two cousins came with their spouses and children. They took us to a very well-known and fancy Korean Restaurant owned by the family of LPGA player, Grace Park. We enjoyed our time together and had a delicious and authentic Korean meal. We are so grateful for my relatives who have been incredibly hospitable to us since we've been here. They loved seeing the pictures of the girls over lunch and they were all extremely excited for us.

After lunch, they took us to one of my cousin's apartments for coffee and fruit. Their apartment was in a stainless steel and glass high-rise with a panoramic view of the city. It was the most high-tech building we'd ever seen. Just like in the movies, you scan your finger to get into your apartment, just like a key. Although most apartments in Seoul are small, this was a 4 bedroom apartment that was quite large in size. Similar to Manhattan, most apartments here are purchased. They told us that housing prices in Seoul are even higher than in New York. Both my cousins are doctors and their spouses are doctors as well. This particular cousin is a dentist and her husband is a dental surgeon. They work together in their office building which is located right across the street from their home. It was quite interesting to see how my family lives half-way around the world.

In the afternoon, we went to the Coex Mall. It is located under the World Trade Center in Seoul. It is an underground labyrinth unlike anything we've seen before. Think Times Square but indoors with hundred of shops, eating options, big screen TV advertisements, sparkling floors and thousands of people. We stopped off to visit to the Coex Aquarium before checking out the Hyundai Department Store. The Hyundai Department Store is a huge luxury department store with prices that are higher than Neiman Marcus in the states. Needless to say, we didn't buy a thing :)

We were really tired again last night. We have been doing so much walking and I have not been getting as much sleep as I'd like. I'm a pretty light sleeper anyway and I just haven't had a good nights sleep since we've been here. Too much excitement I guess. Today at 1:00 p.m. the foster parents will bring the girls to the agency, next door. We will meet them there and they will say their goodbyes to our girls. We are praying especially for them today as we know how difficult and emotional it will be for them. The foster dad already told us that he loved them so much that he will surely cry when they are gone. Please keep them in your thoughts today as well. We are excited to love on our girls and get acquainted with them before we leave tomorrow afternoon.

This trip has been somewhat surreal at times and we are so blessed to have had the opportunity to come here. It has been a learning experience for both of us, in a way that we had not planned, especially for me. More on that later...
We will post some pictures of the girls later tonight, when and if we get a free moment!
*Morgan said he just had to take a picture of the last photo here. It was one of the many restaurants in the Coex mall :)
