Happy Birthday, Grandma!

21 November 2008

Grandma came over today so that we could celebrate her 69th birthday!
The girls were excited about seeing her all day. They even helped me make a sugar-free lemon pie this morning. We had a delicious birthday dinner of filet mignon, baked parmesan mashed potatoes, and an autumn salad. Unfortunately, Grandpa couldn't join us because he is still much too tired.
He was really missed, though. Grandma has been working so hard, taking care of grandpa and all their duties around the house. She definitely deserved a little break and it was so good to be able to sit down and share a nice meal together. It's been way too long since we've been able to do that. Grandma, you are an amazing woman and we are so blessed to call you "mom" and "grandma." The girls managed to make her cry when they sang happy birthday to her (with happy tears). Thank you for living your life with unconditional love, steadfast faith, a servant's heart, and joyful hope in the Lord. What an incredible living legacy you are to our family. We love you.

Her children rise up and call her blessed.

Love you, guys!

Today, I had the privilege of hosting Shannon's baby shower for her new son, Trey. Shannon and Josh are patiently waiting for some final paperwork to be filed and approved before they can travel to Vietnam. They received their referral for Trey at the end of July so they are hoping to travel by the end of this year. Trey is now 6 months old and living in an orphanage in Hanoi. It was my first experience throwing a baby shower and I think it went well. It was an Asian themed shower so I had lots of fun decorating and getting my creative juices flowing. We are so happy and excited for Shannon, Josh, and Teagan! Throughout the whole adoption process, they have been a wonderful example of trusting in God for every detail and because of that, they have experienced great patience and peace. Just a little while longer, guys!
Shannon, I am so blessed to call you my friend and soon, we will have even more in common. Hope you felt showered with lots of love and blessings today!
