Cancun Part 3

27 April 2021

Well, we finally made it through all the pictures. This is the last post about our trip to Cancun.
The resort had a sailboat we could use anytime.

Morgan, our experienced Skipper took each one of us out.

No need to go on a snorkeling trip. Grace was snorkeling right off the dock.
Look how clear that water was.

Again, Zach was living his BEST life.
He loves nothing more than warm water so the Caribbean was his perfect playground.

Then he could spend hours playing in the soft white sand without the worry of big waves crashing on him.

One afternoon, Morgan, Grace and Zach walked down the beach and went to the nearby Waterpark.

Zach had so much fun!

It prepared him for the big Texas-sized waterparks we plan to take him to this summer.

It wasn't all just splurging and relaxing. The girls and I took a couple of Zumba classes in the mornings and also participated in the water aerobics class.

We were the youngest people in the class and we didn't mind one bit!

This is my idea of splurging. Fresh Ceviche, chips, salsa, and a margarita by the pool. Yes, please!

Living the good life.

We loved the calming breezes on this side of Cancun.

Pathway to the beach.

Most days, we had the pool to ourselves.

This little cutie would even stop sometimes to cuddle with me under the shade.

Picture perfect.

Ahh, take me back!

Living MY best life right here!
A good book, some shade, and a gorgeous view.

Somehow, this kid always gets into the cockpit.

Getting a private flying lesson from our pilot. 😊

So that was our AMAZING and relaxing trip to Cancun. We absolutely loved our resort. In fact, we said that it's OUR place now. In all our travels, we've been on the lookout for a place that our family could call our own and see ourselves coming back to for years and years. We finally found it! Plus, the fact that Cancun is only a short 2 hours from DFW. Win-win!!

Here are some of the reasons why we loved The Royal Cancun...

  • Location- it's on the less windy side so you get soft gentle breezes.
  • Beach- no waves, so great for kids, exploring in the ocean, swimming, snorkeling, and water sports.
  • Quiet- it's a low-key resort with a mix of young families and older folks. Not a party place at all!
  • Rooms- the villas had full kitchens, 2 bedrooms, ample space for the 5 of us, and were updated nicely. We had the BEST villa. So close to the pool and beach with an outstanding balcony and view of the beach. We were beachfront.
  • Activities- all the activities, games, classes, and water sports were free.
  • Food & Drink- They had 2 restaurants on the property and we really, REALLY enjoyed the food. They also have a small market on site. We bought groceries to make our breakfast each morning in our villa, which was convenient. Lunch was ordered either from the beach palapas or poolside. Morgan loved the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and ordered it 3 or 4 days in a row. The girls loved the shrimp tacos and fruit smoothies. Zach had the best pizza ever in Mexico. And I had the best salads I've ever had in Mexico plus 1 tasty margarita/day that was plenty strong. Dinner was usually room service and it was so nice to be able to wind down after a long day out in the sun and have dinner brought to our room. We also went to the Italian Restaurant on site one night and that was good, too.
  • Sister properties- The Royal Resorts had 2 other sister properties in Cancun and if you wanted to go check those out, they provided a free shuttle bus. These were larger resorts on the other side where there was more wind and the waves would crash on the beach. We enjoyed a day trip and dinner out there one night but much preferred the quaint and quietness of the Royal Cancun (long gone are the party days of our youth. Give me all the water aerobics!)😆.
One more thing, this resort had an all inclusive option but we are not all inclusive people. Like I mentioned before, I only had 1 margarita a day (when in Rome) and we tend to buy groceries for breakfast to make it affordable and convenient. Morgan does not drink alcohol and generally speaking, we are not huge eaters.
We thought the a la carte food prices were quite reasonable and we only spent an average of about $100-$150/day on food (for all 5 of us). So you see, the all inclusive never makes sense for us. We'd probably pay that per person if we went AI. One year, we did go to a fancy AI resort in Puerto Vallarta (and that was heavenly!) but it was definitely over indulging a bit for us. We tried to be mindful of our budget while still feeling like a treat to be on vacation. Hello, room service! That's my idea of a splurge. Now you're talkin' my language.😉

Anyway, after the big move to Texas, having Covid, and surviving a crazy winter, we're so grateful the Lord allowed us to take this awesome family vacation. We made a ton of sweet new memories.
'Til next time, Cancun!
