It's been a while since I had an edition of Friday Favorites.
Here's a random assortment of some of my favorite things lately.
If you have little ones, I can't recommend enough The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd Jones.
It's not a bible per se but more like a compilation of bible stories. The illustrations are wonderful, the stories are compelling for young and old, and every story truly does whisper His name. I use it for Zach's bible time in the morning and even though we've already gone through it once, we'll go through it one more time before moving on to something new. It's that rich and good.
The next thing I wanted to share is a life hack I heard on the radio one day.
Last year, we sold our beloved minivan after 12 years and bought a mid-sized SUV.
I don't have as much room in the back as I used to and I hate it when all my groceries fly around back there. Especially here in Texas, where they have no problem using a gazillion flimsy plastic bags #atleastitsfree.😆
Just buy 2 hampers from WalMart and you'll never be chasing apples in the back of your car again. This also works great for Costco trips where you have individual items that aren't in boxes. It keeps everything together and when you get home, you just carry the hamper to your kitchen to unload.
This has been such a terrific life hack for me. Brilliant, right? You're welcome.😉
You guys! I don't know why I haven't used coconut milk more in my savory dishes but to me, this ingredient is a game changer. We limit our dairy intake over here so coconut milk and almond milk are staples in our fridge but for some reason, I hadn't really cooked with coconut milk until recently. If you're wanting to make anything creamy (like a sauce or gravy) but without the dairy, you need this in your life! I promise, it does not even taste like coconut. I've been having fun making some new recipes with this.
Sunny days outside with my peeps are my favorite. We're still getting used to the weather here in Texas. There's a saying here that if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes because it'll change.😁 After surviving the #texasfreeze or #snowmageddon last week, we had 4 consecutive days in the 70's this week and it was so lovely! Last night, we had torrential rain and the LOUDEST thunder and lightening storm I've ever heard in my life.😲⛈ #bringonspring
These are my winter weather staples right here. I could do a whole blog post about Vanicream. I've been using this line for a couple of years now and it's definitely a favorite of mine. I have a bottle of this stuff in almost every room. I first began using the Lite Lotion on Zach when we lived in the desert because his legs would get itchy and dry. I liked it so much that I bought the Moisturizing Cream, which is a thicker consistency than the Lite Lotion. Living in the desert and wearing flip flops everyday meant my feet were very dry and sometimes, my heels would crack. The Moisturizing Cream did wonders for that, especially during Covid lock-downs when I couldn't get a pedicure. I feel like Texas isn't as dry as the desert, except when we're outside on cold freezing days. Recently, I learned Vanicream makes a facial moisturizer and cleanser. Wow, I love this stuff! So much so that I have replaced my expensive Colleen Rothschild moisturizer for this. It's a fraction of the cost and a little goes a long way. I also love the fact that it's such a clean product- free from all the bad stuff and with no fragrance. My whole family uses Vanicream. If you're looking for a new lotion, moisturizer, or cleanser, give it a try.
You can find it on Amazon.
This is another winter staple right here. If you've got chapped, dry, flaky lips, Hanalei Lip Treatment to the rescue! It's kind of like a thick lip glass but after one application, you'll notice a difference! This is not your average chap stick or lip balm. I apply it in the morning and at night after washing my face and it keeps my lips moist and soft. You can use it as a lip gloss by itself or under your lipstick. It comes in tinted colors or clear. I put a little pip squeak marker next to it for size reference.
Another favorite of mine this month has been my women's bible study at church. We've been studying the faith legacy of Moses and it's been wonderful to meet women in person (with safety precautions in place, of course) and discuss what the Lord is revealing to us through our study each week. I'm not a big fan of zoom meetings so this has been a welcomed blessing, for sure! I can't tell you how many times I've studied the life of Moses but obviously God has us trusting Him in this new season of life right now and as always, there is so much to be learned through His word, no matter how many times we've studied it before. I pray my legacy is also like Moses'- of trusting the Lord and being obedient to Him, even when it's difficult.
Lastly, I got my hair done today by a new hair stylist and gosh, it's amazing how good you feel when your hair is done right. I know, I'm vain in that way but after having the same hair dresser for almost 25 years back home, I was REALLY nervous about trying someone new in Texas.
Now, about 4 weeks ago, I did get a haircut here and it was awful, y'all. Like I almost wanted to cry but I had to be a big girl and suck it up wear a hat.😆
Happy Friday, y'all!
I hope you have a great weekend.💗
