We stayed at the William Penn Hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. The building was built in 1913 but had since been remodeled. We needed to stay within walking distance to Morgan's business conference so rather than stay in a cramped hotel room in the city, this place was more like a large apartment. At around 800 sq. ft. we had plenty of room to spread out.
The building also had this old working elevator which was pretty cool.
The kids and I enjoyed exploring and walking around the city.
Daddy's business conference was being held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt
(those tall white buildings in the background).
We had a few minutes before the museum opened so we played at the park.
The girls were excited to join this workshop.
They ended up doing a cool science project and meeting the artist who created some of the museum's pieces.
Zach absolutely loved these musical chimes.
He had a ball in the tot lot workshop.
Snacks and selfies.
Look what I built, mom? #notreally
This is more like him... Destruct then conquer.
Climbing walls.
Again and again...
He painted a wagon.
These two sisters reminded me of the girls. Weren't they just this little??
Playing with clay.
Everyone was busy making something.
I had such a blast seeing my little artist enjoy himself.
Chalkboard fun.
Lol.
These three. Love them so.
Good words.
The girls have been coming to the New Children's Museum for years and this was really Zach's second time here but the first time, he was just a baby. The museum isn't actually "new" but it's called that because they periodically change their theme and exhibits. I wasn't sure if the girls would still be interested in this place but they very much enjoyed their day and found plenty to do.
Later in the evening, we walked back to the city park to wait for daddy.
So fun when daddy sneaks up behind you and starts pushing you on the swing!
Playing at the park, in a suit. #citylife #daddylife
So that was our first full day in the city. The kids and I kept ourselves busy and had a blast. Of course, city life always makes for interesting sights, sounds... and smells. #peeyew
Even with all the new construction going on downtown, unfortunately, it seems like the area has gone a little down hill over the years. Even so, the kids and I were just happy to have the flexibility to tag along, share new experiences, and be together as a family.
