Time to pack shoeboxes!
The girls have been doing this since they were about 3 years old. Look at how cute they are!
I love what this simple act of giving communicates to our children. We started out by teaching them, “These are not your toys. They will go to bless a child in another country who will not receive any other Christmas gifts,” Each year, it’s been such a joy to see them pick out what “their girl” might like. What a great tangible lesson indeed.
As the Christmas season approaches and family members start asking our kids what they may want, it’s easy for a child to focus on themselves. Packing a shoebox offers our kids a little perspective. It’s a practical way to bless an impoverished child and share the love of Jesus Christ.
For the past three years at church, the girls have also served as “spokespersons” for Operation Christmas Child. They get the honor of sharing their story and encouraging our entire church body to pack shoeboxes. What an incredible privilege!
